The origin.
In Roman times, Llafranc produced wine and clay pots. Amphorae, construction materials, kitchen pottery and tableware left its port, as well as wine. Over the centuries, ceramics were no longer exported, and the boats returned loaded with fish that were difficult for them to sell, since the port of Calella was a strong competition. Llafranc had a more modest port and one day they decided to give away the product of their fishing. Calella residents said: «It’s free there! Come on, it’s free! ” (the expression “allà de franc” in Catalan). And that’s how they baptized the town: Allàfranc, and later Llafranc.
The name of the hostel refers to the discovery in 1980, in Llafranc, of 78 tiles from Roman times abandoned before firing, of which only one copy is preserved in good condition.
